Gorgoroth's PEST Replaces GAAHL's Vocals On 'True Norwegian Black Metal' Album

Norwegian black metallers GORGOROTH recently spent time at Threeman Recordings in Stockholm with producer Nico Elgstrand (ENTOMBED). During the sessions, GORGOROTH frontman Pest replaced Gaahl's vocals for the "True Norwegian Black Metal - Live in Grieghallen" album, which was originally released in June 2008 via Regain Records. According to a posting on the group's web site, GORGOROTH mainman Infernus (guitar) "has already consulted legal representatives regarding this album, and is prepared to support Regain Records in the label's ongoing legal conflict with two of the band's ex-members, if any such support is needed."

The recording of GORGOROTH's new studio album "Quantos Possunt ad Satanitatem Trahunt" is proceeding on schedule, with a tentative October 2009 release date. The album will be made available via Sweden's Regain Records.

The 2009 incarnation of GORGOROTH consists of Pest (vocals), Infernus (guitar), Tormentor (guitars), Frank Watkins (bass) and Tomas Asklund (drums).

Infernus recently won a court battle against vocalist Gaahl and bassist King ov Hell over the rights to the GORGOROTH band name. According to a posting on Infernus' MySpace page, "The court has decided that King ov Hell's trademark registration of the band name GORGOROTH is NOT valid and shall therefore be deleted. The court states that King ov Hell and Gaahl excluded themselves from the band GORGOROTH when they tried to fire Infernus in October 2007. The court further states that Infernus cannot be excluded from GORGOROTH, unless he himself decides to quit."

Infernus filed a lawsuit against King ov Hell in September 2008 claiming that King (the sixth bass player in GORGOROTH's history) went behind his back in September 2007 and secretly applied for trademark protection of the GORGOROTH bandname and logo, which Infernus had been using since 1992.

"Live in Grieghallen" was recorded live at Grieghallen in Bergen, Norway by Eirik "Pytten" Hundvin and features Infernus on bass and guitar, Gaahl on vocals, and Garghuf on drums.

"Live in Grieghallen" was mixed and mastered by Nico Elgstrand (ENTOMBED) and features all the GORGOROTH "essential songs" from the band's back catalog performed live.

"Live in Grieghallen" track listing:

01. Bergtrollets Hevn
02. Destroyer
03. The Rite of Infernal Invocation
04. Forces of Satan Storms
05. Possessed (by Satan)
06. Unchain My Heart!!!
07. Profetens Åpenbaring
08. Revelation of Doom

Recording lineup:

Infernus - Guitar, Bass
Gaahl - Vocals
Teloch - Session Guitar
Garghuf - Session Drums

Album info:

All music and lyrics by Infernus, except track 1 (lyrics by Hat), track 2 (music by Tormentor) and track 4 (music by King). Recorded live in studio in 2007/2008. Engineered by Pytten at Grieghallen Studios in Bergen and Nico Elgstrand at Threeman Recordings in Stockholm. All bass re-recorded by Infernus at Threeman Recordings. Mixed by Nico Elgstrand. Mastered at Cutting Room in Stockholm by Infernus and Mats Lindfors. Cover design by Magnus Wolfhart.

Shock Metal Fest – Postergado hasta nuevo aviso !

COMUNICADO VISUAL SHOCK

Deftones Update On Chi's Condition, "Eros" Material Put On Hold

The Deftones have issued the following update on bassist Chi Cheng's condition as well as their progress in the studio. Here's the update from the band directly:

"What’s up! We want to take a minute and address all of you regarding Chi and our new record:

"First and foremost, we are all still praying and hoping for our brother’s and bandmate’s recovery. He continues to get hospital care, but often it feels as if we’re no closer to knowing what is ultimately going to happen to him as he continues to fight off infections as part of an ongoing battle with his condition. We trust all of you have been following his progress at One Love For Chi; we have as well. Whenever we have significant information regarding his condition, we will share it with all of you. In the meantime, we’re working on getting a benefit show together for Chi in Los Angeles this fall; details will follow very soon.

"Let’s all continue to channel positive energy into the universe for Chi’s recovery.

"There has been a lot of speculation lately about what is going on with the record: Eros for one, and Chi’s parts, and this new record that we are currently tracking.

"The songs recorded for Eros are very special to us as they are the latest with Chi (and we certainly hope not the last); they have history and significant meaning to us. However, as we neared completion on Eros, we realized that this record doesn’t best encompass and represent who we are currently as people and as musicians. And although those songs will see the light of day at some point, we collectively made the decision that we needed to take a new approach, and with Chi’s condition heavy on our minds while doing so. We needed to return to the studio to do what we felt was right artistically. Our inspiration and unity as a band is stronger than it has ever been before and we needed to channel that energy into our music, and deliver to our fans what you rightly deserve: the best Deftones record that we can make.

"The decision to hold off on releasing Eros has no connection with Chi’s condition or anything associated. This was, and is, purely a creative decision by the band to write, record, and deliver an amazing product. As a result we feel like this is the best record we’ve ever written. And although Chi is not playing bass with us, his presence is dramatically felt in our hearts and on our minds everyday when we step into that studio, and you will feel it in the music.

"We have some dates coming up this summer as you know, and the best thing that we can do now is to try to return this situation to the closest thing to normalcy as possible. The stage is our home, and you are our family.

"Please remember, only Deftones speak for Deftones, so we will continue to periodically release official statements.

"More to come soon."

Kataklysm Guitarist Detained By Federal Agents

Guitarist Jean-Francois Dagenais of Canadian death metal quartet Kataklysm was detained today by federal agents at an airport in Washington D.C.

The guys were scheduled to change planes in the capital before continuing on to Chicago after playing a couple of highly successful shows in Russia.

"We grabbed our bags and went through immigration with no problems as expected. As we’re waiting in line for the customs exit some uniformed guy grabs J-F and takes him away with his bags. We assumed it was just a random check," commented vocalist Maurizio Iacono.

An hour later, 3/4 of the band were on the next plane with still no sign of Dagenais.

"This was 4pm. I go back to the customs area and the place is deserted. At this point we started worrying and asking questions but we received no answers. We decide to board our plane at 4:30 pm with still no sign of him. Someone from United Airlines tells me finally he won’t be joining our flight but still no reason is given," Iacono continued.

“So we jet out of D.C. and get back to Chicago where the guys were staying over at my house until today to go back to Canada. After fruitless calls to the airport we just decided to wait for some sort of sign of life. That sign came at 11pm in Chicago at O’Hare airport.

“Apparently Washington customs official grabbed J-F and threw him in a room with only one chair and a table. He was there for five hours until they finally talked to him and they told him that he was wanted internationally and by the US government. I could have imagined his face when they told him this, it must have been priceless. People that know J-F know he couldn’t hurt an ant. He’s one of the most down to earth and sweetest people you could meet. After a few hours of denying everything, Interpol sent in a picture and that picture didn’t match his. What happened was that there was another Jean-Francois Dagenais that is listed in the FBI’s most wanted list and they thought they’d caught him. I mean, what the fuck!? He was given a tap on the shoulder and apology and re-booked to Chicago! Even though we were really worried all of us laughed it off at the end. It’s just ironic that we expected this to maybe happen in Russia but in the end it ended up happening right here at home!”

Napalm Death: New Video Interview With BARNEY GREENWAY

Finland's HardcoreSounds.Net conducted an interview with vocalist Mark "Barney" Greenway of British grindcore pioneers NAPALM DEATH before the band's June 19, 2009 performance at the Nummirock festival in Nummijärvi, Finland. Watch the chat below.

"Time Waits For No Slave", the new video from NAPALM DEATH, can also be viewed below. According to Greenway, the clip "encompasses all the features of a dour, sterile, product-driven world and the sheer joy of freeing up your mind and appreciating the simplicity of the world evolving around you rather than flogging yourself to death all the time to get ahead. [It was] done in Norwich (Eastern U.K.) with Tom Blyth, who you might not have heard of. But he was in a really old U.K. hardcore band called GOOBER PATROL. We saw his work and he really seems to understand the art of protest without the cheesiness or cliché."

"Time Waits For No Slave" is the title track of NAPALM DEATH's new album, which entered the German Media Control chart at position No. 95. The CD, which was released in the U.S. on February 10 via Century Media Records, was recorded with producer Russ Russell. Drums were tracked at Parlour Studios in Kettering and guitars, bass and vocals were done at Foel Studios in Wales. The band then returned to Parlour for the mixing sessions.

Greenway recently told Rock Sound magazine about "Time Waits For No Slave", "Each album appears to have got progressively better and better. There was no great master plan, really. We're just a very organic band, very spontaneous, and we just try to write the best songs possible. If there is anything in the back of our minds, then I think it's that we always try to make each album differ without losing the thread of what should be there and I think we've done that with this album."

NAPALM DEATH - Time Waits For No Slave

Arch Enemy Name New Album

Acclaimed British producer Andy Sneap (Megadeth, Testament, Exodus) has finished mixing and mastering the new Arch Enemy record, "The Root Of All Evil", due on September 28 in Europe and October 6 in North America via Century Media Records. This special collection features re-recorded versions of songs from the first three Arch Enemy albums — "Black Earth" (1996), "Stigmata" (1998) and "Burning Bridges" (1999).

Commented guitarist Michael Amott: "This one took some time to get done, despite the fact that the actual songs were already written a good few years ago! The album was recorded at a few different locations locally here in Sweden — produced by Arch Enemy, with Daniel Erlandsson (drums) handling a lot of the engineering. It was then sent to Andy Sneap in England for the mixing/mastering and I simply can't stop listening to this since I got the final mixes!"

Amott continued: "We basically headed down to our rehearsal studio, got reacquainted with the tunes, picked out our favorites and proceeded to give a breath of new life to those early songs, with the idea to have the possibility to re-add them to the live set and follow up with some touring activity!

"I'm loving hearing these songs with a fresh new sound and performance. Everyone in the band did a killer job on it — especially Angela's [Gossow] vocal performance is astoundingly intense and brutal and it was also cool to hear Sharlee [D'Angelo] lay down some great bass tracks on the early songs! The production and mix is crushing and heavy as hell — it really makes these old songs shine. It sounds like a brand new thing!"

Arch Enemy will return to Australia in November for a phenomenal headlining tour. Direct support on the dates will come from New York death metal legends Suffocation. Also appearing on the bill is Winds Of Plague.

Behemoth: New Song Available For Streaming

A new BEHEMOTH track, "Ov Fire And The Void", is available for streaming on the band's MySpace page. The song comes off the Polish extreme metallers' ninth full-length studio album, "Evangelion", which is scheduled for release on August 7 in Europe via Nuclear Blast Records and August 11 in North America through Metal Blade. The CD was mixed at Miloco Studios in London, England by Colin Richardson, who has previously worked with MACHINE HEAD, SLIPKNOT, NAPALM DEATH and BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE, among many others.

"Evangelion" track listing:

01. Daimonos
02. Shemaforash
03. Ov Fire And The Void
04. Transmigrating Beyond Realms Ov Amenti
05. He Who Breeds Pestilence
06. The Seed Ov I
07. Alas, Lord Is Upon Me
08. Defiling Morality Ov Black God
09. Lucifer

The digipack edition will include a bonus DVD with behind-the-scenes footage and expanded artwork.

Commented Nergal (guitar, vocals): "'Evangelion' combines a pure art form with a direct message. It was also important for us to ensure that the graphical presentation did justice to the record. Again, we have worked with Tomasz Danilowicz, who has created his best illustration yet for BEHEMOTH. The picture is of The Great Harlot of Babylon riding the seven-headed beast. Saints bow before her in worship whilst the tablets of the Ten Commandments lie broken at her feet. It represents our vision and the interpretation of the New Testament parable where the 'Whore of Babylon' is a symbol of rebellion and resistance against God. I am fascinated by stories whose source lies in the Bible and we have used biblical symbolism, coupled with my own experience and outlook, in our lyrics or on the covers of previous BEHEMOTH records. I love to juggle with meanings and play around with symbolism which is exactly what I have done in this case. The main character of our new cover is an archetype of disobedience, individualism, self-determination and a free, unfettered will — these are universal keywords which are typical and crucial in understanding the character of our works, life as a whole and the true nature of man."

Nergal previously stated about the new material, "I must confess that I'm way more excited about this record than I was for [2007's] 'The Apostasy'. It's probably the whole label situation that we had to deal back then, Inferno's injury that caused crazy deadlines that completely drained the energy out of my system… I even started treating that album as unwanted child. Weird, because from time perspective, it's a great one. This time though everything was planned much in advanced. I found time to live my life, get some energy back, get inspired and so on… When we met in October it was obvious that all of us were really hungry for making new music. It's definitely 100% BEHEMOTH. I would risk saying that we do have our own style but it's still improving, evolving in different directions every time we approach new project. Most of the songs are the really fast, technical and intense, at the same time there's a lot of diversity. There's even a very slow, massive song that's probably the most epic tracks in BEHEMOTH's history. Everything sounds more serious and…dangerous (I love that word, ha ha). There's probably more sinister vibe in our music this time too."

BEHEMOTH has been confirmed for the second annual Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival, set to take place this summer. The band will perform on the Hot Topic stage alongside CANNIBAL CORPSE, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, JOB FOR A COWBOY and WHITECHAPEL on over 25 dates.

Hatebreed's New Album Will Be A Self-Titled Affair

Connecticut hardcore/metal juggernauts HATEBREED will release their new self-titled studio album in the fall via E1 Music (formerly KOCH Records) in North America and Roadrunner in all other territories. According to a press release, the follow-up to 2006's "Supremacy" is shaping up to be one of HATEBREED's "most ferocious albums ever."

Frontman Jamey Jasta comments, "I can't wait to work with E1 Music and Roadrunner international on this release. E1 did a great job with our 'Live Dominance' DVD and our recent covers album. We're so pumped to give them both our new studio album!"

Jasta continues, "The record is mean as hell. Fans of American metal and East Coast hardcore will be very pleased and maybe even somewhat surprised."

HATEBREED previously collaborated with E1 on the "Live Dominance" DVD and the recently released covers album, "For The Lions".

Scott Givens, E1 Music's VP of Metal, says, "E1 Entertainment is proud to be the home of HATEBREED in North America. I speak for everyone here when I say we are 100% committed to putting every resource we have behind the new record. Jamey Jasta is part of our E1 family and we are looking forward to continuing to work with him on all of his endeavors both now and in the future."

Roadrunner's Wally van Middendorp adds, "After having released their last two studio albums on Roadrunner internationally, it is an honor to work again with HATEBREED, a band that is on top of its musical league."

The new album is once again being produced by Chris "Zeuss" Harris at Planet Z studios in Hadley, Massachusetts and marks the return of original guitar player Wayne Lozinak (who recently replaced Sean Martin) alongside core members Chris Beattie (bass), Matt Byrne (drums), Frank "3 Gun" Novinec (guitar) and Jasta.

The band is currently taking a breather from the recording studio by touring Europe and South America, making a series of high-profile festival appearances and playing a number of headline shows before returning to the U.S. for the "Decimination Of The Nation" tour which begins in late July and runs through September.

Jasta recently told Noisecreep that HATEBREED's new CD is "definitely hard as hell and there isn't a lot of sludgy doomy stuff from my KINGDOM OF SORROW experience," referring to his side project with CROWBAR's Kirk Windstein. "A couple things may be vocally similar, but it's the upbeat, aggressive approach that we always take. Everyone stepped up their game with the covers record and that challenged us to match the intensity and speed, and to do solos. This will be our first record with guitar solos. We're not known for that. Wayne [Lozniak] is a shredder and that will surprise some people but it's not overdone."

The covers album by HATEBREED, entitled "For The Lions", sold around 10,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 58 on The Billboard 200 chart.

HATEBREED's last collection of new material, "Supremacy", opened with around 27,000 copies back in September 2006 to land at No. 31. This number was roughly in line with the first-week tally registered by its predecessor, "Rise Of Brutality", which shifted more than 32,000 copies back in November 2003 to debut at No. 30.

An e-card for "For The Lions" can be accessed at this location.

Amorphis Guitarist: 'This Band Has Stayed Together Because It's Fun And We Enjoy Making Music'

Tom Valcanis of FrantikMag.com recently conducted an interview with Tomi Koivusaari, founding guitarist of the Finnish metal band AMORPHIS. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

FrantikMag.com: Let's talk about your new record, "Skyforger". It sounds much more psychedelic and spaced out than your previous records in recent years. How did you make it sound so, well, "out there?"

Koivusaari: Well, I'll have to have a think about it. I guess it's because of the mixing and the mastering. It doesn't sound as compressed. So there's more dynamics and space. You can just hear those small things a little better.

And there might just be a bit more delay guitar maybe. I don't know. Maybe it's just delay guitar. The sounds are just more, like, dynamic. Spacey in a way. We didn't do any more psychedelic stuff on purpose though.

FrantikMag.com: It sounds damn heavy as well alongside all the lighter progressive touches, what made you guys decide to follow that route?

Koivusaari: Well, we've been doing gigs at the same time as writing albums ever since Tomi (Joutsen), our singer, joined the band. I think doing so many gigs and festivals have affected our way to play on stage and in the studio as well. All the progress we've had has been natural; we never decided to use more growling or heavier guitars or that sort of thing. I'm glad to hear that you think it's heavy, because most other people have said that this album is kind of lighter, which is something I don't agree with.

FrantikMag.com: Hey, the heavier metal, the better, right? Anyway, you guys can't seem to break yourself away from writing lyrics about the (epic Finnish folk tale) "Kalevala". Why did you turn to it yet again in your lyrics; do you guys fashion yourselves as the modern storytellers of "Kalevala"?

Koivusaari: I think they're interesting stories and philosophies, but they aren't the thing we use to write our music with. I think they fit with our music very well because they're timeless and there's a lot of emotional stuff [behind it]. But I wouldn't say that [AMORPHIS] are the "storytellers." It's a very old tale but it gives you a good perspective on today's life [and culture.]

FrantikMag.com: Writing for so long on the same subject, how has the band fared over these 20 years? Surely you've had all sorts of insane rock n' roll experiences.

Koivusaari: We've had a pretty good time over our years, but we have had our bad moments. Especially when our former [singer] Pasi [Koskinen] lost his motivation. It was a very depressing time for us. We were so relieved when he left and found a new singer because we thought we might have to go and record an instrumental album or something. But this band has stayed together because it's fun and we enjoy making music. That's why we can say it's been easy and that we still enjoy it all the time.

THREAT SIGNAL has just completed a headlining tour with THE AGONIST, FLATLINE and THY WILL BE DONE. Dubbed the "Road to Revision", the run will be followed by another headlining trek this July with THE AUTUMN OFFERING, THE AGONIST and SYBREED. During this tour, THREAT SIGNAL will be debuting material from "Vigilance".

In a recent interview with Spine Language blog, Jon Howard stated about THREAT SIGNAL's decision to play new, as-yet-unreleased material as part of the band's current live performance, "We feel that we've been playing the same show for too long. We've been playing songs from 'Under Reprisal' for almost five years! The reactions have been amazing so far. Sometimes it feels as if they know the songs already! So with that said we have totally broken the rule. We are playing five songs from the new album, 'Vigilance", and six from 'Under Reprisal'. So you get a good blend of new and old. I think people are craving new shit, so even if they do stand and nod their head, I don't care, I know they are just taking it all in!!"

Morbid Angel Frontman Talks Upcoming Album, Organized Religion

NZRock conducted an interview with bassist/vocalist David Vincent of MORBID ANGEL when the band played New Zealand on May 20, 2009.

NZRock: Can you go through the chain of events which led to you rejoining MORBID ANGEL?

David Vincent: Well, I got a call from the band's manager. Basically there was a situation where there was a South American promoter who I was friends with actually. I hadn't seen him in a while but he explained to me that the band had some shows booked down there that they'd already had to postpone twice and there was some issue still unbeknownst to me that the other guy was done or that there was some conflict. Anyway, he asked me if I'd be interested in doing these four shows. I thought about it and I was like, "Hmmm, that sounds interesting." And it was like this whole fresh thing that happened, it was really cool. And that's all it was ever going to be, just four shows in South America. Well, we got along really well, the crowd was really jazzed, and no sooner did we get home then the band's booking agent just started getting calls from far and wide saying hey we want this and that. And he said, "Hey, do you guys want to do a tour?" Basically, picking up as if there was no gap, just picking up where I left off, you know what I mean?! And yeah, you know, it seemed like there was a really good vibe, everyone got along really well, so we did just that. Then we started working on some new material for all the right reasons… good vibe, really organic, it felt good, we were all having fun and that's a great reason to do something you know.

NZRock: What was it like working with Trey [Azagthoth, guitar] again. Did you find your personalities had changed over the time away even though everything has come together so well?

David Vincent: Well, everyone is probably a little more mature than they were but we're all essentially the same people. Trey is just like this massively creative guy, he always has been. As familiar as you are with something, you just need to be reminded, and I was reminded. Not that I ever forgot about that, but you know, getting back together with the guys, it just kinda reaffirmed that, man, what a fucking great band we are! That's cool, and obviously it's been reinforced by the enthusiasm that we've seen from the audience, which just makes us work that much harder too. When you're delivering on stage and they're giving you back ten-fold the energy, then all you do is add more to it so the shows have been really, really good.

NZRock: When you do the new recordings, have you got any procedures in place to keep them from being distributed early through the Internet?

David Vincent: Well, you know, somewhere along the line some people… and I don't know what reason for it is, whether it's limited home training or their preception that the Internet all of a sudden makes everything free. It's kind of a problem in the sense that… I buy CDs, I support the bands that I like because I'm a fan and I want the bands that I like to continue putting out stuff and the best way for me that I know to reward hard work is with a dollar, you know?! If I buy their CD, then hopefully it'll be profitable enough for them in the long run, if I'm part of their profitability to where they dont have to go home and get a job flipping burgers or whatever they can do, and they're back working on music. And I think that if anybody who calls themselves a fan of music would mind their P's and Q's and do just that, then that's what makes music continue. If they don't do that, then you know, I don't think they're being real fans, they're just being posers. If you're really a fan, music is worth something. People put a lot of love, a lot of blood sweat and tears into their art, whether its a painting, music or a film; it costs a lot of money and takes a lot of years out of people's their lives — there are these amazing commitments that happen. You wouldn't expect to go and get a burger or a new car for free, so why would you expect to get your entertainment for free? And I think that if everybody is mindful of this… we need to police ourselves, is what it is. I buy CDs, if I can do it then everybody can.

NZRock: I read a couple of interviews where Trey said that he's been listening to some heavy drum n bass music. Is there any chance some elements of that may end up on the [next] album?

David Vincent: Well, here's the thing: there's a certain energy that comes from that kind of music. Obviously, in that kind of music there's no guitars and there's no real drums so… you know, Trey is a guitarist and we have a drummer, so are we going to be putting out a dance record? No. There are different ways to go about stuff, I think what it is, is being able to include the essence and the energy of stuff. When he's talking about the stuff that he's into, it's severe, it's really brutal, like the Rotterdam stuff. It's very aggressive. It's literally death metal minus the vocals, the guitar and the real drums. But, I mean, in terms of the energy that you're feeling coming out of it, it's richter. It's as extreme for its genre as sort of death metal is for the metal genre.

NZRock: It's said that having an interest in the occult draws that energy to you. Have you ever had any sort of supernatural or occult experiences? I've always been interested in this.

David Vincent: Absolutely. Well, listen, humans are very creative people, creative beings and if you get rid of preconcieved limitations of thought its amazing what the human mind can come up with. And if you don't allow yourself to stagnate and you don't allow youself to be sort of be funneled into preconcieved notions, the sky's the limit in terms of where you can go, where your thoughts and your dreams and your aspirations can take you. We've always tried to encourage people to look beyond the obvious, because nothing is as it seems, it never is. There's a lot more to life out there, you just have to take the time and meditate and find your place. Challenge yourself to think outside the box. It's very easy to think within the box, because the box is where the world makes its money, predicting what people want to eat, predicting what sort of medical ailments are going to trouble someone and designing a pill to cure those ailments without necessarily addressing the root cause of it. "Hey! Listen!" shows a guy at a ball game eating a hotdog that's got chilli and all kinds of slop on it and then he's got a stomachache later and here, take this pill and you'll feel alright. Well, the fact that you have a stomachache is that your body is telling you that you're not getting anything out of this food, it's not good for you. So the only thing the pill is doing is turning off your body's [message] that I don't want this, this is crap, why are you putting this in me? The ball game still makes money on their concessions and now the drug company makes money on selling you something that's just going to turn off something you could've made a better choice of anyway. It's a vicious circle and we could go on about this for days! [Laughs]

NZRock: You've been affiliated with the Church Of Satan for a long time now…

David Vincent: I don't deny it, but I'm not really active in terms of like this heirachy. That can be just as much of a country club, you know, political thing as anything else can be. I joined because I felt like it was a good idea and it's a great antithesis to a number of things out there. And it's certainly a book — Dr. LaVey's original book, and even the subsequent books — it's a good read. And for anyone who has questions about things, that's a great place to start asking questions, because I really feel that organized religion is really at the center of a lot of problems and a lot of closed-mindedness that we have in this world. Wars, I mean, hell, Islam is the worst offender, I mean as bad or worse than Christianity. Probably the only organized religion that I don't have a problem with would be Buddhism, because it's almost paganism. It's just a different path that works, these other things they don't work. Any religion that has this belief, this system that just subjugates women the way that they do, I just have no respect for it at all. I'll try to break this down the best way that I can. When you're in an environment that is all about thought control, and it's really not even so much the church anymore. I mean, that was a good thing to rally to, to get everyone thinking along the same lines. I mean, Christianity is by and large done in terms of their worldwide influence at this point but there are a lot of laws out there that are based on that dogma that need to go away. And I think it's even as simple as… I mean, there are actually places that they're not allowed to sell alcohol and beverages on a Sunday because that's what the Lord said… I mean, come on! But there are some vestiges of laws that were adapted out of people being concerned about those things and you know, it's time that they're done. And Islam, that whole thing just needs to be erased. It's silly, it's causing a lot of problems and its simply not compatible with anything. It's not compatible with human rights, it subjugates women, it's violent and it's just bad news. That's my opinion.

Keel: New Album Title, Track Listing Revealed

Vocalist Ron Keel of the reactivated '80s hard rock band KEEL has issued the following update:

"We are gathered in North Hollywood to begin sessions for the new KEEL album tomorrow morning. To say the least, we're fired up and really excited about this new project.

"Shortly after announcing the KEEL reunion last November, we made the decision to include a new album release in our plans. At the time we had no new songs, and discussed the possibility of coming up with a few new tunes and re-recording some of our favorite KEEL compositions. Almost immediately, new songs started to come to life through our collaborative efforts and we ended up with an entire album's worth of new material that we are confident will fulfill our musical passions while giving our fans — and a whole new generation of KEELaholics — a collection of songs that we can all enjoy.

"While we are re-visiting a couple of timeless classics to include as bonus tracks on the new album and the 25th anniversary edition of 'The Right To Rock', we are tracking 12 brand-newKEEL songs guaranteed to satisfy your rock n roll hunger.

"Entitled 'Streets Of Rock 'N' Roll', the album will be co-produced and mixed by ace producer/engineer Pat Regan (RITCHIE BLACKMORE, WARRANT, BILLY SHEEHAN, ETC.). My vocals will be engineered, recorded, and produced by Paul Shortino [ROUGH CUTT, QUIET RIOT]. We'll be posting updates from the sessions as often as time permits, and plan to offer a free download of a brand new KEEL song later this summer.

"We promise the musical direction of this album is this: straight-ahead classic hard rock anthems — strong, powerful, guitar-driven rock meant to capture the spirit of our genre, the excitement of our reunion, and our love for our music and our audience.

"We look forward to sharing this music with you, and we thank our fans, friends, families and everyone on our staff and crew for the inspiration to make this the greatest KEEL album of all time."

"Streets Of Rock 'N' Roll" track listing:

01. Hit The Ground Running
02. Come Hell Or High Water
03. Streets Of Rock N Roll
04. Push & Pull
05. Brothers In Blood
06. Hold Steady
07. Live
08. Does Anybody Believe
09. No More Lonely Nights
10. The Devil May Care
11. Lookin' For A Good Time
12. Gimme That

KEEL recently inked a deal with the Maryland-based label Chavis Records.

With the high volume of requests for the band to reunite, the members — Ron Keel, guitarists Marc Ferrari and Bryan Jay, drummer Dwain Miller along with Geno Arce (Ron's longtime bassist) — felt the time is right to deliver the show fans everywhere have been demanding: a KEEL reunion.

"It would not have been right without these guys," said Ron Keel.

The KEEL debut reunion concert took place in Hollywood on January 31. The location for this historic event was Club Vodka at The Knitting Factory. Watch fan-filmed video footage from the show below.

In 1985, KEEL's "The Right To Rock" became the fastest-selling debut in A&M Records' history and the band was proclaimed the "Best New Band" by Metal Edge and Circus magazines. The album's title track was a hit on radio and MTV and remains a staple on VH1 Classic, in addition to the group’s subsequent hits "Tears Of Fire", "Because The Night", "Somebody's Waiting" and "Rock & Roll Outlaw". The group developed a reputation as one of the genre's most entertaining live acts, opening for heavyweights like BON JOVI, AEROSMITH and VAN HALEN, among many others.

Hatebreed Frontman Talks Next Album

Vocalist Jamey Jasta of Connecticut hardcore/metal masters HATEBREED has told Noisecreep thtat the band is currently recording its next album at Planet Z studios in Hadley, Massachusetts for a tentative set for an October release via E1 Music (formerly KOCH Records). He said, "We hope to top [2002's] 'Perseverance'," which was the band's most commercially successful release.

Regarding how the album will sound, Jasta said, "It's definitely hard as hell and there isn't a lot of sludgy doomy stuff from my KINGDOM OF SORROW experience," the vocalist stated, referring to his side project with CROWBAR's Kirk Windstein.

Released in the U.S. on May 5 via E1 Music (formerly KOCH Records), "For The Lions" is the follow-up to the band's #1 Billboard charting DVD, "Live Dominance" (released September of 2008).

The songs on "For The Lions" were carefully selected by HATEBREED to represent a panoramic view of some of their favorite artists and greatest musical inspirations. Having completed the album in 2008, the band felt their work wasn't done yet and just returned to the studio with original guitar player Wayne Lozinak to record additional tracks for the album.

The video for HATEBREED's cover of the SLAYER classic "Ghosts of War" can be viewed below. Helmed by "Live Dominance" director Kevin Custer, the clip is the first to feature returning HATEBREED guitarist Wayne Lozinak.

Godhead: 'The Decline' Video Released

"The Decline", the new video from GODHEAD, can be viewed below. The clip was directed by Philip Hodges and features footage from the band's summer 2007 tour, including shots of GODHEAD's crew as well as members of AMERICAN HEAD CHARGE.

GODHEAD — Jason C. Miller (vocals, guitars), Michael Miller (guitars), Ullrich Hepperlin (bass, programming) and Ty Smith (drums) — released its sixth studio album, "At The Edge Of The World", on October 7, 2008 via Driven Music Group (distribution by Ryko/Warner Music Group), the label owned by ex-KORN guitarist Brian "Head" Welch and music execs Greg Shanaberger and Mark Nawara.

The CD — produced by bassist Ullrich Hepperlin — features 13 songs and five bonus remixes courtesy of Assemblage 23, Sebastian Komor (ICON OF COIL), Curse Mackey (PIGFACE, EVIL MOTHERS), Shok (MY LIFE WITH THE THRILL KILL KULT) and Fat and Acid (AMERICAN HEAD CHARGE).

"When I was writing 'Stay Back'," explained singer/guitarist Jason C. Miller, "I thought about all the times people push each other away in relationships, maybe from clashing ideals or just being afraid of something good. I assumed the role of the person who knows he's a spoiler, but has enough morality left to warn the other person."

He stated about the album's overall writing process, "We really reconnected with the influences that inspired us to write music, like THE CURE, BLACK SABBATH, BAUHAUS, PINK FLOYD, RADIOHEAD, DAVID BOWIE, DEPECHE MODE and even RUSH. It's something I always try to do, but don't always succeed. It's not the radio single that makes you a true fan of a band, it's those interesting tracks that you discover late at night sitting in your room. And I try to ignore modern music trends at all costs. Why become a clone of what's popular now only to be ignored tomorrow? Stick to your own sound and your audience will find you, and they will stay with you for the rest of your life."

In addition to fronting GODHEAD, Miller is an accomplished actor and voice-over artist, devout Buddhist, trains in Kung Fu and is a loyal supporter of The Sogan Foundation, a charity which raises funds for The Tibetan Institute for Science and Technology (TIST) in Golok, Tibet. He has provided voices for over 25 different anime shows, some of which have been recorded at the recording studio he owns, Central Command Studios.

Living Sacrifice Taps ANDY SNEAP For New Album Mix

Reunited Little Rock, Arkansas-based Christian death/thrash/metalcore band LIVING SACRIFICE has tapped Andy Sneap (MEGADETH, EXODUS, ARCH ENEMY) to mix its first studio album since 2002's "Conceived in Fire". The CD is currently being recorded at a studio in the group's hometown with producer Jeremiah Scott (THE TONY DANZA TAPDANCE EXTRAVAGANZA, THE SHOWDOWN). Vocalist/guitarist Bruce Fitzhugh has described the new material as "what you would expect from LIVING SACRIFICE: fast, brutal, heavy, slow and driving. We want each song to have its own identity." The album will feature a guest appearance by Joe Musten of ADVENT on vocals and percussion.

LIVING SACRIFICE in June 2008 released two brand new songs exclusively online. "Death Machine" and "The Battle", the group's first new songs since 2002, are available for purchase on the band's MySpace page.

LIVING SACRIFICE last year supported DEMON HUNTER at venues across North America.

Former and current members of LIVING SACRIFICE went on to join bands such as EVANESCENCE, P.O.D. and NORMA JEAN.

A best-of set, "In Memoriam", was released in 2005 with three songs that were thought to be the group's last.

Fitzhugh is joined in the reunited LIVING SACRIFICE by founding member/drummer Lance Garvin (SOUL EMBRACED) as well as lead guitarist Rocky Gray (SOUL EMBRACED, ex-EVANESCENCE) and bass player Arthur Green, both of whom have played with LIVING SACRIFICE since 2000's "The Hammering Process".

Capital Chaos has posted video footage of LIVING SACRIFICE performing on May 29, 2008 at the Club Retro in Orangevale, California. Also on the bill were DEMON HUNTER, OH, SLEEPER, ADVENT and THE FAMINE. Watch the clip below.

Black Label Society Bassist, UFO Guitarist Interviewed On 'Rockin' Metal Revival'

BLACK LABEL SOCIETY/CYCLE OF PAIN bassist John "J.D." DeServio and UFO guitarist Vinnie Moore were interviewed for the latest episode of the "Rockin' Metal Revival".

The program is now available for download in three parts at this location.

The self-titled debut album from CYCLE OF PAIN was released on April 21 via Reform Records/Rock Ridge Music. The CD features guest appearances by Zakk Wylde (BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, OZZY OSBOURNE), Ray Luzier (KORN), Brian Tichy (BILLY IDOL), Sen Dog (CYPRESS HILL), Russ-T Cobb, Hugo Ferreira (TANTRIC), Marcus Ratzenboeck (TANTRIC), Clip Payne (P-FUNK), Burton C. Bell (FEAR FACTORY) and Russell Allen (SYMPHONY X).

Accompanying DeServio in CYCLE OF PAIN is vocalist/rhythm guitarist Gregg Locascio, lead guitarist Joe Taylor (who plays with Doro Pesch) and drummer Rich Monica.

Vinnie Moore released his new solo album, "To The Core", in North America on May 26 via Holland's Mascot Records.

"To The Core" recording lineup:

Vinnie Moore - Guitar
Van Romaine - Drums
John "J.D." DeServio - Bass
Tim Lehner - Keyboards

Moore spent the last several years on tour with UFO. Once off the road, Moore took his time meticulously laying down the tracks to his newest guitar instrumental masterpiece.

Choosing a very retro-contemporary rock style mixed with many other styles and influences, Moore decided he would make it a good old-fashioned rock 'n' roll instrumental album. It's just Vinnie Moore, his guitar, and his raw guitar talent — all the ingredients that make this album a work of art.

Suidakra: First-Ever Show In China Cut Short; Video Available

German melodic folk/death metallers SUIDAKRA have issued the following update:

"We played our first show here in China a few days ago (June 14) in Shenyang. Everything started perfectly as there were a lot more people than we expected and everybody obviously enjoyed our performance. Unfortunately, the crowd barriers in front of the stage were not prepared for a decent metal concert and they broke down during the second song. It took some time until the police and security could fix it, but then we were able to continue. Just two songs later, people in the audience got hurt by the crowd movement, so together with the festival organizers we decided that the show shouldn't be continued, as safety and physical integrity of our fans is a top priority for us! We thank everybody for understanding and staying cool with this decision and promise to come back as soon as possible to Shenyang. Anyway, we'll continue our tour here in China with shows in Beijing and Shanghai. Maybe we'll be able to announce another show at short notice to take place on June 19 — we'll keep you updated!"

Check out video footage of the Shenyang concert below.

SUIDAKRA recently announced the addition of guitarist Sebastian Hinz to the group's ranks.

SUIDAKRA's ninth album, "Crógacht", was released in the U.S. on March 3 through Wacken Records/SPV.

Over its fourteen-year history, SUIDAKRA has stayed true to its roots and the sound that it has become known for. Combining fast melodic death metal, Irish folk music, and a torrent of harmonies, SUIDAKRA proves yet again that it possesses the ability to blend several different influences into its unique sound. To put a spin on things, new elements have been introduced, like traditional instruments (bagpipes, banjo, tin whistles), a sixteen member choir and epic orchestral arrangements.

Recorded at Gernart Studios with producer Martin Muchwalter, "Crógacht" delivers an aural assault. In addition to that, the eyes and mind of the listener will also be pleased, as famous Belgian graphic artists Kris Verwimp is responsible not only for the magnificent artwork in the digipack and 16-page booklet, but also for the lyrics of this fascinating concept album. "Crógacht", meaning bravery, is based on one of the most dramatic tales in Irish mythology. It tells the story of the hero Cuchulainn's epic journey to the Isle of Skye, where he seeks to learn the arts of war from the Scythian warrior woman Scathach. The decisions he then has to make set the events in motion that will lead up to his son Conlaoch's tragic fate…

With overwhelming reactions to their 2006 release, "Caledonia", and their November 2008 DVD/Best of CD, "13 Years of Celtic Wartunes", SUIDAKRA has performed over 200 live shows (including the Wacken Open Air festival five times), and successfully completed several tours in Europe, Russia, and a first-ever American tour.

"This album will be the death of me," vocalist Howard Jones recently told RollingStone.com. "There was nothing comfortable about it for any of us," he said of making the record, most of which took place in Atlanta under the watchful eye of superproducer Brendan O'Brien (BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN, AC/DC, PEARL JAM), marking the first time KILLSWITCH guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz has stepped aside for an outside producer.

"We're known for being a pretty positive band — we're almost a self-help band," Jones said. "I feel like Tony Robbins or something. We're known for anthems, but this time I really tried to write from a different place. I've got enough to draw on to write some stuff that can be dark. Maybe there's still a hint of positivity in it, but there are some songs on there that are not positive at all."

"Killswitch Engage" will feature the following track listing:

01. Never Again
02. Starting Over
03. The Forgotten
04. Reckoning
05. The Return
06. A Light In A Darkened World
07. Take Me Away
08. I Would Do Anything

15. Holy Diver [Live]

God Dethroned: 'Drowning In Mud' Video Released

"Drowning In Mud", the new video from the Dutch melodic death metal band GOD DETHRONED, can be viewed below. The song comes off the group's latest album, "Passiondale", which was released in April as a limited double digipack edition including a bonus CD. The double-digipack features stunning artwork and two discs: the regular album plus a live recording from 2005 featuring nine songs! The CD was recorded at Soundlodge studios in Germany with producer Jörg Uken.

GOD DETHRONED will embark on the "Storming the Balkans Tour 2009" in June/July. Support on the trek will come from FLESHGOD APOCALYPSE and SACRAMENTAL BLOOD.

GOD DETHRONED frontman Henri Sattler explains the lyrical concept of "Passiondale": "It says Passendale on the street sign. The little village with its huge Tyne Cot cemetery and memorial centre. I passed it many times on the way to Isaac (Delahaye, our former guitar player) for another of our notorious drinking sessions in Ypres not far from the French border. I got really impressed by how this town breathes World War I. The numerous cemeteries, the Menin Gate with its daily last post ceremony since 1929 with the exception of just one day during a bombardment in World War II, the buildings that have been rebuilt in their original state and definitely all the English, Irish and Scottish people that visit Ypres every weekend, probably because one of their relatives died there during the war. During the night at the bars and pubs, they tended to get really drunk and sang louder than the barman could crank up the stereo set! It's during these times that I got inspired by the Great War and decided to write a concept album about it. Ypres and Passendale were the center of war activities during the war with around 900,000 casualties compared to nine million worldwide. I realized how harsh it must have been there during those four years. Passchendaele was the official name of the little village during the war, but since the English speaking armies couldn't pronounce that, they nicknamed it to: Passiondale"

GOD DETHRONED will return to North America for a short tour in the fall. Support on the trek will come from ABIGAIL WILLIAMS, WOE OF TYRANTS and AUGURY. Tickets are on sale now through EnterTheVault.com and all normal ticketing services.

"We are entering Fascination Street studios in Örebro, Sweden on June 15 to record our fifth album, which will be called 'New Moon'. The album will be produced and mixed by Jens Bogren, who has worked with such names as KATATONIA, OPETH, PARADISE LOST and AMON AMARTH, just to name a few. And as we announced earlier, Kai Hahto (WINTERSUN, ex-ROTTEN SOUND) will be playing drums on the album. We are thrilled and looking forward to working with such professionals.

"Here is the initial track listing for the album (although we reserve the right to change it if we feel like it)

01. These Woods Breathe Evil
02. Falling World
03. Sleepless Swans
04. And Heavens Cried Blood
05. New Moon
06. Lights on the Lake (Horror Pt. III)
07. Servant of Sorrow
08. Weight of the Dead

"The album will be released in early November 2009 around the world; we'll let you know the exact dates as soon as possible."

SWALLOW THE SUN recently parted ways with longtime drummer Pasi Pasanen. He explained in a statement, "Lately, I've been having a lack of motivation towards this kind of music and touring. The guys have felt it too and there's no point for me to deny it. It just affects the chemistry in the band too much, so it is time for me to step aside."

An e-card for SWALLOW THE SUN's "Plague of Butterflies" mini-album can be accessed at this location. The CD was released in September 2008 via Spinefarm Records.

Fan-filmed video footage of SWALLOW THE SUN's February 16, 2009 concert at Foufounes Électriques in Montreal, Quebec, Canada can be viewed below (courtesy of "AnteChristumNatum").

Napalm Death's EMBURY Discusses Upcoming BRUJERIA Album

U.K.'s Terrorizer magazine recently conducted an interview with NAPALM DEATH bassist Shane Embury, who also plays guitar for the long-running extreme metal project BRUJERIA (under the name "Hongo"). A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

Terrorizer: Where's the new [BRUJERIA] album at?

Embury: "Good question! The music's done, bar a couple of songs and Juan's [Brujo, vocals] working on the lyrics, so I'm hoping... it won't be out this year, but it'll be finished by the end of this year and out early next year, I'm not sure what label we'll put it out on, we might just release it ourselves.

"The whole scene's changing. Looking at it, we manage to do our own gigs, most of the shows we do we organise ourselves anyway and Brujo has a big connection down in the Spanish-speaking countries. We do stuff off our own backs and we're kinda thinking, 'Well, maybe we should do the album ourselves, sell it at gigs or on the net or whatever.' We'll see, but definitely it'll be finished by the end of this year. At least all the music's pretty much done now, it just took a while — that's a step in the right direction."

Terrorizer: What's it going to sound like?

Embury: "A mixture of the three albums. I didn't think there was enough fast stuff on the last one, Dino [Cazares, guitar] kinda leaned a bit too much towards the FEAR FACTORY side of things. So it's going to be a mixture; we're gonna get some fast, very grindy songs in there, but we also want mid-paced, slow, chunkier songs. Lyrically, Brujo will be talking about his usual cross-border shenanigans I'd imagine. We're also doing a cover of 'La Bamba', called 'La Bumba', so we've been working on that, trying to get the actual Mexican strings in there, so if that comes off, that'll sound pretty good. Brujo likes to do his cover versions. I think we're going to be able to put a lot more traditional-sounding instruments in there so it's not just heavy stuff, you know? It'd be nice to get some blastbeats with the accordion over the top. All being well, it's going to sound very BRUJERIA but quite extreme as well. And quite diverse, because we've got four singers now so we can get a different angle, each guy's got a different voice. We also have a female singer — she's going to be on there as well — so we'll have a few different tones."

Terrorizer: When did you start working on it?

Embury: "It's been a couple of years, but when Jeff [Walker, CARCASS] came into the band, me and him started working on riffs. We get together so infrequently, we've been talking and talking and talking and finally we managed to start recording stuff in the past couple of months. We've had the ideas for a long time, it was just a case of sitting down and going, 'Right, we're gonna do it now.' We tend to talk about it and it never materialises. We recorded twelve/thirteen songs, there's still a few songs to record, but we'd been talking about it for two or three years.

"The band didn't start playing live until 2003/2004, those were the first ever shows. Things take quite a while with us. It's quite bizarre, the band's been together nineteen years — we do things at our own pace I guess. Or at Brujo's own pace; I don't know!"
